Customer Instructions on How to Issue/Complete Cheques
To enable customers
to issue/complete cheques correctly, banks may wish to issue customers instructions
on how to issue cheques. These could include the following:-
(a) Write clearly
and legibly, preferably using pens with medium writing tips and black or blue-black
ink. Avoid using red and green inks. Erasable inks and pencils can be altered and,
therefore, should never be used for cheques.
(b) Make well-formed
numbers that do not touch each other. To prevent alteration of the amount, it should
be left justified in the preprinted box for the amount field.
(c) Use a decimal
point to separate the ringgit from sen on cheques.
(d) Avoid using
the fractional form for sen in the amount field of the cheque.
(e) Keep the amount
field of the cheque clear of other writing.
(f) Avoid folding
and creasing of cheques. Folding a cheque can cause a crease to occur directly through
a MICR character, which often will not completely flatten when it is run through
the reader/sorters.
(g) Do not apply
staples on cheques.
